Solar Credits & Rebates
Solar Credits
The Solar Credits scheme will apply to new installations as of June 10th 2009. This new scheme has no means test, which allows families whose combined household income is over $100,000 to be eligible, as well as businesses rental/holiday properties and community groups. You will recieve Solar Credits for the first 1.5kw of capacity installed. For Example, for a 1kw system you may recieve up to $3670 and up to $5580 for a 1.5kw system and above. As this scheme is based off the RECs price, the rebate amount will vary from time to time.
Renewable Energy Certificates (also known as REC's) are a way of keeping track of how much renewable energy has been generated and who has generated it. REC's can be traded between companies or individuals, rather like shares. One REC is created for every megawatt hour of renewable electricity that is produced. The Solar Credits Scheme is based upon REC's using a multiplying system up to a maximum of 1.5kW.
